Daan Vermeulen
A travel writer from Amsterdam who started Lanternpathagency as a creative home for fictional hotel reviews. He edits every published piece.
Independent reviews of imaginary casino hotels, written from Amsterdam.
Lanternpathagency is a small editorial project that imagines what casino hotels in the Philippines could be. We do not promote real brands, sell bookings, or accept advertising. Every review is a work of fiction: the architecture, the staff, the prices, and the table games are invented. Our purpose is to create a believable travel atmosphere and to explore how a luxury casino hotel feels on the page.
The site is maintained by a team of writers and designers based in the Netherlands. We publish in English because our readers come from many countries, and because the Philippines is a common language bridge for travelers from Europe and Asia. All company details, contact numbers, and registration numbers are fictional for this project and are not connected to a real Dutch business.
Lanternpathagency was founded by Daan Vermeulen during the winter of 2023. After a long career in travel publishing, Daan wanted to build a space where hotels could be reviewed as complete fictional environments. He chose the Philippines because of its mix of tropical settings and fast-growing cities, and because the country’s hotel market offers a wide range of moods to imagine.
The name comes from a childhood lamp: a brass lantern that once lit a path through a Dutch garden at night. The idea of a lantern as a guide — even an imaginary one — stayed with him. Today, the project remains small, independent, and committed to honest, non-promotional writing.

Honesty is the first value. We describe fictional hotels as if they were real, but we never pretend that they are. Readers should always know that these reviews are imagination. Responsibility is the second value. Gambling is a serious topic, and we mention it only in the context of the invented setting. We include age limits and responsible gaming warnings wherever a casino is discussed.
Quality is the third value. Every review is edited for clarity, accuracy of made-up detail, and consistency. We also believe in privacy: we collect the minimum information needed to answer a question, and we never sell reader data. Finally, we value beauty. The visual style of the site — dark colors, thin amber lines, and clear typography — reflects the night-time mood of the hotels we review.
